Black Wildfire Smoke Blankets Sky Over Town of St. George

Black smoke from a raging wildfire blanketed the sky over St. George, Georgia, on Monday, May 8.Evacuation orders were issued for residents of the town as the blaze, dubbed the West Mims Fire, had burned more than 133,000 acres in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge over a month, according to authorities. Schools in the Charlton County, where St. George is, were closed on Monday.More than 600 firefighters, 10 helicopters and 59 fire engines were deployed to fight the fire scorching parts of the Florida-Georgia border, Action News Jax reported.
