West Bengal may soon be renamed 'Bengal' or 'Bangla' if the the Mamata Banerjee government had its way. A special session of the assembly will be convened to discuss the renaming of the state. In 2011 too, the government had cleared the renaming of the state to "Paschimbanga" but the name didn't stick in English.
