by Jonathan SangerAdidas has just released first mass market 3D-printed shoe. The company created the Futurecraft 4D with the help of Carbon, a company that uses 3D printing. The midsole is formed using Carbon’s “Digital Light Synthesis” technique, which uses oxygen and light to form the sole. The technology makes a higher quality product faster than traditional 3D printing. It’ll also allow adidas to customize soles to individuals in the future. But right now the rest of the shoe is created using traditional manufacturing. 5,000 pairs will go on sale later this year, and up to 100,000 will be released by 2018.
