ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA — A shrapnel-laden device tore through a subway train in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on Monday afternoon, with at least 11 lives lost and 45 injured.

Officials believe the suspect died in the carnage. Russia’s Interfax news agency, citing a law enforcement source, said the suspect had ties to a radical version of a religion that YouTube is too PC to allow us to name.

The device went off on a southbound train travelling between the Technology Institute and Sennaya Square stations of the St. Petersburg Metro. This occurred around 2:40pm local time in the third car as the train was pulling into the Technology Institute station.

Security officials told Interfax the homemade device was filled with nails and other shrapnel.

Following the atrocity, all 62 stations on the St. Petersburg Metro were closed.

Another device was found at Revolutionary Square station and diffused. No group has yet claimed responsibility.
