The 81-year-old Dalai Lama keeps a busy schedule, but that never stops him from maintaining his meditation practice. He typically wakes up around 2:40 a.m. and begins meditation at 3 a.m. but he admitted to Dr. Sanjay Gupta that after sixty years of daily meditation "it is still hard." Gupta says his time learning from the Dalai Lama has changed him into a more focused individual and now he practices "analytical meditation every day, usually early in the morning." He says the first two minutes are always the hardest but then he enters into a "flow" state where 20 to 30 minutes "pass easily."
