Trump administration to set trans bathroom guidelines

The Trump administration is working on a new set of guidelines regulating the use of transgender bathrooms for students, the White House announced. The news alarmed LGBTQ students across the nation, sparking concerns over discrimination in schools and public places. The incoming legislation would force transgender people to use bathrooms according to the sex indicated on their birth certificates. White House press secretary Sean Spicer clarified that the new set of guidelines are a states' right issue and not one of the federal government. Nearly 150,000 youth, or about 0.7 percent of the population between ages 13-17, identify as transgender in the U.S., a study byThe Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law says.
