A barrage of water continued to rush down a damaged spillway at the Oroville Dam in Northern California on Friday, February 17, as authorities continued to regulate the amount of water passing through to protect the area from flooding.Though rain was expected to return over the weekend, authorities continued to use rock and concrete to counter shore up holes in the main spillway and counter erosion.
Prior to the use of the untested emergency spillway on February 11, officials, fearing a possible collapse, ordered the evacuation of close to 190,000 people living in the Feather River Basin below the dam. The evacuation order was downgraded to an evacuation warning on Tuesday, February 14. KCRA reported on February 17 that the dam’s main spillway had remained stable for several days.
