He says it is an act of humanity, not a crime. The verdict is due in the case of a French farmer, who has gone on trial over sheltering illegal migrants.

Cedric Herrou could be jailed for up to five years if found guilty of helping people without authorisation to enter, travel through and remain in France.

He has taken in dozens of migrants in the Roya valley in the French Alps.
