Getting to sleep fast: Somnox robot pillow can induce sleep in minutes, inventors say
  • 7 years ago
DELFT, THE NETHERLANDS — A group of robotics and engineering students from the Netherlands have created a robot pillow that they say improves sleep quality and could be an alternative to medication.

Dubbed Somnox by its inventors at Delft University of Technology, the pillow is equipped with multiple high-sensitivity sensors and an artificial intelligence algorithm.

The pillow interprets whether the user is awake or in a deep sleep and uses the data to create a breathing rhythm that can induce the user to sleep within minutes, according to the Somnox website.

The pillow emits a gradually increasing light to wake up the user in the morning.

Somnox is still in the prototype phase and it is not yet known when it will be available to the market.
