LOS ANGELES — Police report a woman charged with battery after a random attack on an elderly Korean woman was not a hate crime, but believe she was either heavily intoxicated or suffering from mental illness.

On February 1 at around 2:40pm, the Korean grandma, 83, was seen going for a stroll on her own in Koreatown. For reasons unknown, Alexis Duvall, 27, suddenly came running up behind her. In newly released video of the incident, Duvall can be seen going right at the Korean grandma, pushing her in the back and sending her face first into the concrete. The grandma laying motionless on the ground, Duvall tried to escape. Luckily, a good samaritan followed her, and caught her on camera acting belligerent and speaking incoherently. Police were able to catch up to her soonafter and arrest her.

Duvall originally gave them a fake name, but a fingerprint scan revealed her true identity. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. A witness uploaded her account of the attack on Facebook, claiming the woman screamed “White power!” as she ran off, yet no other witnesses in the area claim to have heard this. Aside from a 1-inch gash on her forehead, the grandma is reported to be okay.
