The growth in popularity of Snapchat over the past four years has been both dramatic and highly noticeable, but one thing it hasn’t been is particularly surprising. The social media tool is uniquely suited to meet and needs of its young and digitally savvy target market. Not only does it offer quick and easy communication, but it satisfies an instantaneous and immediate need for connection, all the while erasing any regrettable and ill-advised postings within moments of them being shared. The photo- and video-sharing tool has been built and developed specifically to cater to the self-absorbed desire of many young people to constantly share their goings-on.

Not that Snapchat doesn’t have its legitimate benefits. The ability to use the app to share immediate snaps enables the collection and dissemination of information in both quick and easy fashion. The app has captured no shortage of interesting and compelling events, moments and happenings that would have simply been represented through incredulous anecdotes met with skepticism in previous generations. Amidst a sea of inane, silly filtered photos of users sporting cartoon-y dog faces while vomiting rainbows, some snaps actually bring the user in and offer them access to something they wouldn’t otherwise get to see. Even presidential nominee Bernie Sanders has seen enough value in Snapchat to use it as a key tool as part of his campaign.

While certain photo snaps can elicit a laugh or at least bring a smile when accompanied by the right caption, it is the videos and Snapchat Stories – that is, collections of snaps put together through the app to form one over-reaching narrative – that add another layer of depth to shared posts. Earlier this year, one Snapchat user in attendance at President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address used the story function to infuse the address with pics of the First Dogs, Sunny and Bo, and other happenings from the event not caught on TV. In fact, some of the most popular stories shared on the app have been developed from those attending live events, acting as a window into actually being there in person.

It is, however, the videos that enable the fastest and most direct tool towards experiencing just what the sharer has or is presently going through. And as you can surely imagine over the course of the four years since the app was created by a pair of Stanford University students, there has been plenty of eye-popping content shared through the app. Celebrities like Kylie Jenner and DJ Khaled are among the many that happily share their day-to-day life with millions of users, providing an insider’s perspective that offer a refreshing alternative from the carefully-crafted, image-conscious appearance of celebrities presented through the mainstream media. Now, is a popular model/actress like Jenner still image-conscious? Of course. Has she always presented her best self? Well, you’ll have to see for yourself below.

Even among the many crazy and oddly fascinating videos shared through the app, these 10 stand out. They are alternately entertaining, amusing, horrifying and shocking, showcasing some eye-popping images in an all-too-real first person perspective. These videos need to be seen to believe, so it’s a good thing that thanks to Snapchat, there’s an app for that...

Thanks for all the supports =)
