ROLESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA — After searching for clues through the charred remains of a kitchen fire, fire officials came to the conclusion that the dog did it.

The morning of January 18, fire officials believe one of the pet dogs noticed a box of treats sitting near the stovetop. Determined to get to them, the dog likely turned the knob on one of the burners, sparking the flame. The paper box of treats so close to the burner, it caught fire, and then quickly spread to the rest of the kitchen.

The three dogs in the house managed to survive, along with one of the two cats. Unfortunately, the other kitty perished. No humans were present in the home during the blaze.

The firefighters figured out it was the dog when they spotted burnt milk bones scattered across the stovetop. The Rolesville Fire Department claims this is a common occurrence, so please, don’t underestimate your pets.
