Our Prophet (saas) forgave the person who poisoned him

ADNAN OKTAR: The Messenger of God (saas) lived until the age of 63. He was martyred due to poison put in his food. The Messenger of God had been invited to a dinner where meat was served, and before he had a bite from the meat, a companion had already swallowed his bite. And when the Messenger of God (saas) tasted a piece of the meat, he immediately said, "This meat is poisoned." He quickly took it out and washed his mouth, but our Prophet's (saas) gums became swollen from the potency of the poison and his mouth turned red. Look, do you see how potent the poison was? And that dear companion was martyred since he had swallowed a whole bite of meat. And after that, the Messenger of God (saas) never fully recovered because of the poison. But of course, Almighty God used this as a means. Since God decided to take the Prophet's (saas) life, this had been a means to do so; the poison was that means. Because the Quran’s revelation was completed, and our Prophet (saas) had fulfilled his duty. Almighty God wanted him by His side. In fact, God sent Gabriel (pbuh) to convey a message to our Prophet (saas), saying "If he wishes so, I will let him stay in the world a little longer. Or if he wishes, he can come to My side." Our Prophet (saas) said, "I want to be by God's side. I choose Him." In other words, he said to God "I want to join my Creator’s side as soon as possible." Look, Gabriel (pbuh) told him "You can continue to live if you want. God will prolong your life." He said, "You can stay and live for a little longer." But the Prophet's (saas) duty had been fulfilled. "I want to join my Lord as soon as possible," he said.  As you know, he said to God "To the Highest Companions" pointing upwards with his hand. And then suddenly his arm fell down. Such a blessed, delightful Prophet was he. After being poisoned, our Prophet, the Messenger of God (saas) had his blood drawn from his soldier through bloodletting method as the poison had already mixed with his blood. But of course, the medical means of the era was not sufficient in neutralizing the effect of the poison. Since sublingual veins are very thin and he already took the poisonous bite in his mouth, the poison quickly mixed into his bloodstream through those veins. Look, his gums became swollen, which means the poison was very potent.

The Messenger of God (saas) would always forgive any offenses against his person. For instance, the woman who administered the poison was caught and brought to the Prophet (saas). The Messenger of God (saas) inquired the woman about it and she confessed to her crime but since it was committed against his person, he forgave her. The Prophet (saas) would not impose punishment for any crimes attempted on his life. In other words, he would always forgive any murder attempts on his person.  As God says in a verse of the Quran, "It is better to forgive." However, as the other companion had been martyred, his family asked for retaliation, thus the verdict was delivered.
