Hello friends. This is your Broadway Bulletin and I'm Valerie Smaldone...

Some people are Phantom of the Opera groupies...After all, it is Broadway's longest running musical, having hit the big 2-0 this past January. If you are a phantom freak, you may be happy to learn that there is a sequel in the works. Phantom of the Opera 2, or Phantom in Manhattan as it is being called, which originally began over a decade ago. Hopefully they'll have some new chandelier tricks up their sleeves.

Let's head out west for a moment. I just learned that my dear old friend from the Bronx, Paul Provenza is reprising his role as Picasso in the Steve Martin comedy, Picasso at the Lapin Agile. You may remember that it played off -Broadway in NY some years ago. Californians are really in for a treat with this one. Picasso runs through April 27th at the Rubicon Theater in Ventura.

From California, to Chicago, the musical that is...As you may know, the producers continue to rotate recording artists through the cast and this May, Mya, who is best know for the song Lady Marmalade, makes her Broadway debut in this show...Sound familiar, it should, as Mya played one of the merry murderesses in the Oscar winning adaptation of Chicago. Mya joins the cast May 12th and plays on through July 13

How's this for someone really liking you?

The Playwrights Realm, a new Off-Broadway theater company, will have the World Premiere of Anton Dudley's SUBSTITUTION at the SoHo Playhouse (15 Vandam Street between Sixth Ave & Varick Street). The play was written specifically for Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell, who stars in the production on May 4th. It's pretty cool when a playwright writes a play just for you.

That's the latest Broadway Bulletin, my theatre-loving friend. I'm Valerie Smaldone.
