A gun attack on Reina nightclub in Istanbul has left at least two people dead and between 20 and 30 people wounded, local television station NTV is reporting.

One police officer and a civilian are said to have been killed.

Some 800 people are thought to have been inside.

Two attackers are said to have been involved, one of whom is believed to still be inside the club. Police special forces are said to be preparing to enter the building.

Initial reports suggest the shooters were wearing Santa Claus costumes. Eyewitnesses claim the attackers were speaking Arabic.

Television footage shows ambulances and police vehicles outside the venue in the Ortaköy district of the city.
