It's 'Bajirao Mastani' Over 'Shuddhi' For Deepika Padukone

While it was reported a day or so ago that Katrina Kaif will be essaying the role of Mastani opposite Ranveer Singh in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani, now it has been confirmed that SLB's first choice for the role Deepika Padukone, will essay the female lead in the movie.

Deepika, who was supposed to play the lead role in Karan Johar's Shuddhi, chose Bajirao Mastani over KJo's film. Both Johar and Bhansali's films are slated to release on Christmas next year and therefore, Deepika had to choose one out of the two and she opted for the latter's opus.
Interestingly, Ranveer was also offered Shuddhi but he also gave preference to Bhansali's film. Priyanka Chopra will also star in Bajirao Mastani and will essay the role of Kashibai, Bajirao's first wife.
