Republican Kennedy wins final Louisiana Senate runoff

Republican John Kennedy won the Louisiana Senate runoff election, defeating Democrat Foster Campbell in a 52-48 majority vote. Kennedy, the state treasurer, replaces GOP Sen. David Vitter, who lost a bid for governor last year and decided not to run again. "And with 52 seats in the U.S. Senate, we are excited for Republicans to confirm a conservative Supreme Court justice and begin working with President-elect Trump to pass an agenda of change for the American people," Republican National Committee co-chair Sharon Day said. Kennedy, who had previously run unsuccessfully for Senate twice, took the lead in polling throughout the race. Trump and Pence endorsed Kennedy before election day and made last-minute visits to the state to rally on his behalf.
