High Protein Diet Shown to Prevent Fatty Liver

A recent study published in the Journal of Gastroenterology looked at the effects that eating a high protein diet had on the liver’s fat content. After six weeks, participants showed positive effects of decreased liver fat. If left untreated, fatty liver can be the first step towards developing Type 2 Diabetes which can develop into life-threatening liver cirrhosis. Half the participants ate a vegetarian high protein diet with pea protein added to bread and the other half ate lean meats, milk, and fish. All participants showed positive effects with the high protein diet.
