Echidnas are known for their slender snouts and spiky exterior, but can they actually swim? A video captured at Shoal Bay on November 8 is proof that the egg-laying mammals can in fact navigate through water.Jamie Finn posted a video of an echidna cooling off. “We watched this little fella make the swim about 20 metres from the beach, in an outgoing tide he started to struggle and he sure as hell wasn’t going to make it to tea gardens!”
The uploader stated the echidna had to be rescued and safely transported back to the bush across the road. But she said there was no doubt the echidna could swim.
The video shows the echidna waddling into the ocean, being knocked off balance by waves, and eventually swimming through the water. Credit: Youtube/Jamie Finn via Storyful
