The Isère department funded this facility, innovative by design, in 2004. Although it caters for any small animals, from invertebrates to badgers, it was primarily built to prevent the slaughter of amphibians and to prevent the complete disappearance of this fundamental link in the proper functioning of the wetland.
The increasing impact of the massive number of animals run over, which had become unbearable, was the result of the rehabilitation and widening of the county road separating La Tourbière du Grand Lemps from its forested west slopes.
