Phil Collins is back with a set of live shows in London, Paris and Germany as part of his ‘Not Dead Yet: Live’ tour.

The British rock icon announced in 2011 that he was retiring to spend more time with his family. But he explains what made him change his mind:

“People were talking to me over the last couple of years and saying, ‘We miss you. Nobody does what you do and it would be great if you came back and did some shows.’ And these kind of comments started to weigh up with me and I thought ‘Why aren’t I doing it? Am I not doing it just because of principle because I said I’d retired?’ Okay, well, I changed my mind. Hard luck,” says Collins.

Phil Collins rose to fame as the drummer and lead vocalist of Genesis before going solo in the Eighties, becoming one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has won seven Grammys, six Brits, two Golden Globes Awards and Oscar.

But he hasn’t been on stage for nearly a decade.

“I’ve been away long enough for a greatest hits tour not to bore people,” he says. “I think the fans – I assume we’re talking about fans – I think they’ll be happy listening to the stuff that they’re familiar with and obviously there’ll be some things in there that will be surprises. Surprises like ‘Oh, we haven’t heard that for like, fifteen, twenty years.’ So I’m hoping that that will be a good show.”

As part of his ‘Not Dead Yet: Live’ tour next June, Phil Collins will performing for five nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall before heading to Cologne and Paris.

His autobiography ‘Not Dead Yet’ is out this month and Collins is currently working on a new album.
