Muted atmosphere in Bangkok's backpacker heartland

Khaosan road, the heart of Bangkok's famous backpacker scene, is far more subdued than usual following the death of Thailand's King Bhumibol. The many bars which line the street have switched off their pounding loudspeakers, and staff are dressed in black mourning clothes. But young tourists are not complaining, and say it's important to respect Thailand's moment of national grief.
