Foreign ministers from Russia, the United States and key regional players are meeting Saturday in the Swiss city of Lausanne for talks on the crisis in Syria.
The Saturday talks in Lausanne are closed to the media so far.
There have been reports of a number of bilateral talks ahead of the main meeting, with Lavrov having reportedly met the US Secretary of State John Kerry, according to diplomatic sources.
Kerry said the discussion was driven by the "urgency of Aleppo, the urgency of trying to find something that works other than military action."
