Conservative commentator Ann Coulter recently made some controversial comments about Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe, on 'The Sean Hannity Show.'
On Thursday, Sean Hannity was talking to Coulter about the issues in the presidential election when she is quoted as saying, in part, “And it's pretty spin gruel when this latest one, the Hispanic mattress girl, Alicia Machado.”
After Coulter made several accusations against the pageant contestant, Hannity asked her what she meant by the term “mattress girl.”
She explained, “Oh, remember the whole hysteria over mattress girl at Columbia? I just mean she's – it's like an It Girl, except it's mattress girl.”
Hannity said in response, “Oh good grief. I am not responsible if this is obscene in some way…”
He then indicated that he was not familiar with the reference, to which she explained, “There was that woman doing an art project walking around with a mattress on her back, and the whole thing turned out to be fake.”
Coulter was speaking about a female student at Columbia University who protested her alleged rape by carrying a mattress around school.
According to the New York Times, the action was part of an art project called Mattress Performance (Carry That Weight) which was heralded as a public expression of survival despite the exoneration of her alleged attacker.
