LINZ, AUSTRIA — Two freeway rest areas, flagged as sex hot spots, have been closed in Austria.
The rest areas on opposite sides of the Mühlkreis Autobahn (A7) near Franzosenhausweg in Linz were closed in July after officials at the freeway management company said the restroom areas were frequently vandalized. The Asfinag company cited littering and destruction to partitioning walls between stalls, according to Austrian news website Nachrichten.at.
Police said most of the vandalism occurred at night and that constant repairs made it too expensive to keep the facilities open.
The stops have become popular sexual meeting grounds for both hetero- and homosexual encounters. The rest areas have also been featured on multiple online forums as sex hot spots.
