EU should offer 'constructive criticism' to China - Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama has told the European Parliament in Strasbourg that the EU should offer “constructive criticism” to China.
The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader made both serious and light-hearted comments during his visit.
He said he hoped that the Tibetan issue would be resolved.
“There is hope and I think it is important that the outside world, particularly like the EU, I think with sincere motivation to in order to help People`s Republic of China with some sort of constructive criticism, is sometimes necessary,” said the Dalai Lama.
Communist troops took control of Tibet in 1950 in what Beijing calls a “peaceful liberation.”
The Dalai Lama fled to India nine years later after a failed uprising against the Chinese.
“We are not seeking independence,” he said. “History is history. We are very much impressed [by] the spirit of the European union – independent sort of sovereign states – important but not so important.”
The Dalai Lama says he wants genuine autonomy for his Himalayan homeland.
