Popular Sandstone Pedestal Along Oregon's Coast Knocked Down

The popular sandstone pedestal at Oregon’s coastal Cape Kiwanda park appears to have been intentionally knocked down by a group of people, as seen in a video uploaded to Twitter on August 29.
The sandstone pedestal was a popular attraction for locals and tourists, with its collapse prompting the hashtag #ripthatpnwrock. The hashtag is populated with people’s photos of the uniquely shaped rock formation.In an interview with Oregon Live, David Kalas, who filmed the video, said he confronted the group who knocked the rock over. The group called the rock a “safety hazard,” and told Kalas that they had toppled it because their friend had broken a leg on it.
The rock was located in a fenced-off section of the park that was declared off-limits after six people died on the nearby cliffs over the last two years, Oregon Live reported. Credit: Twitter/David Kalas
