Clemson concluded play in the 2015 campaign with a record of 14-1. They fell to Alabama in the championship game by the score of 45-40. In the semifinals the team faced Oklahoma and earned the 37-17 victory. Dabo Swinney returns for his ninth season at the school. He will have eight starters back on offense with four to the defensie. DeShaun Watson returns under center for his junior season. He is being tabbed as the top quarterback prospect in college. Watson will have most of his playmakers back this year to set up a strong run at a Heisman trophy. He completed 67.8% of his throws for 4104 yards with 35 touchdowns and 13 picks. He rushed for 1105 yards and 12 touchdowns. His top running back is a junior in Wayne Gallman who ran for 1527 yards with 13 touchdowns and 5.4 yards per carry average. Clemson was the 16th top scoring offense from college football last year averaging 38.5 points per game. Defensively the team was 10th best in the nation by allowing 313 yards per game.

Auburn finished up play a season ago with a record of 7-6. Guz Malzahn returns for his fourth season with the club. They crushed Memphis 31-10 in the Birmingham Bowl. Malzahn has six starters back on offense and six on defense. Sophomore Sean White will start at quarterback. He saw work as a freshman and hit on 58% of his throws for 1166 yards with one touchdown and four picks. Exiting the program are his top receiver and running back. Auburn sported the 111th ranked passing offense. They averaged 27.5 points per game which was 75th best from college football. Over on defense Auburn struggled against both the pass and run ranking 70th in the nation overall by surrendering 405 yards per game.
