China reinforces border safety with Burma

China says it has taken measures to reinforce border safety with conflict-torn Burma amid concern that escalating violence between the country's government and ethnic separatists is spilling over.

An official Chinese newspaper, the Global Times, reported last week that China had sent troops to the border between its Yunnan Province and Burma's northern Kachin State "to understand the situation".

There were also reports oft artillery shells exploding on a mountain in Yingjiang County, which borders Burma.
