Election commission moves to dispel voter list fears

The Union Election Commission has begun issuing voter slips to residents whose details appear incorrectly on the existing voter lists, in hopes of reassuring eager voters that their voice will be heard on the 8 November election day.

But voter lists have been riddled with errors from the beginning, often listing deceased relatives and omitting members of households entirely. The UEC has come under criticism for what many feel is a botched job of registering Burma’s some thirty million voters. Admitting that the initial lists were up to 80 percent incorrect, the commission has scrambled to find a solution in the lead up to the ballot.
