NYPD commissioner William Bratton will resign next month

NYPD commissioner William Bratton will step down next month to take a job in the private sector, ending a 45-year career in the policing world. Mr. Bratton’s departure was to be announced on Tuesday afternoon by Mayor Bill de Blasio. Bratton will be replaced by the department’s top uniformed officer, Chief James O’Neill, a veteran New York commander.
