Transcript: How is Parkinson's Disease treated?
Parkinson’s Disease is a neuromuscular condition which affects basal ganglia brain cells leading to tremors,
trembling head and hands,
stiffness of the limbs and torso, poor coordination.
There are several treatments for this disease.
The traditional treatment consists of Levodopa and Carbidopa medication to encourage the
brain to produce dopamine. Unfortunately it is not successful to all patients. The new treatment
involves the Stem Cell Therapy, which uses fetal or adult neural stem cells to replace the damaged
brain cells. The treatments do not cure the Parkinson’s disease, but improve balance, reduce tremors,
relieves rigidity and improves thinking skills.
