The newest resident of Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo wears stripes and weighs around 50 kilograms.
The unnamed foal is a Grevy's zebra, the third born to 9-year-old Adia. Zoo staff arrived early Saturday to find the newborn already standing with her mother in their habitat.
Right now, the foal has brown stripes but zoo curator Dave Bernier says they'll turn black after about two years.
The zebra is native to eastern Africa and is endangered in the wild because of hunting and habitat loss.
