ISKCON Temple: An August Reflection of Tranquility

ISKCON temple in Siliguri attracts you with its sublime grandeur, where solemnity mingles well with majesty. It is a fairly modern creation in this land of ancient ethos and traditions; it saw the light of the day as late as 2002. Dedicated to the eternal lover-God the Lord Krishna, this beautiful temple is adorned with fascinating paintings of Lord Krishna, depicting his various achievements. The timings of the temple are from 7 A.M to 11 A.M in the morning and 4 P.M to 8 PM in the evening.

The surroundings of the temple complex are dotted with lush green trees and blooming flowers. Verdant lawns outside the temple premises accentuate the feeling of serenity among the visitors. The spirit of tranquility which reigns here helps devotees to come closer to the God

For those not in the know, ISKCON stands for ‘International Society for Krishna Consciousness.’ Founded by Srila Prabhupada in 1966, ISKCON society is not confined to India only; it has developed into an international society, which has its roots spread across the globe. This society has around 6000 temples spread across the globe under its umbrella.

A popular belief among the people is that Lord Krishna hid in the forests of Baikunthapur with Rukmini, who happened to be one of his chief wives, at some point of time in Hindu mythology. This is perhaps the reason why Siliguri became the first choice of the ISKCON society for constructing their biggest Krishna Centre in the north-east India. The jungles of Baikunthapur are in the vicinity of Siliguri.
