The Big Picture With Kal Penn-Space Invasion

It’s easy to think of space as something “in a galaxy far, far away,” but there’s a very thin line between Earth and space. In Hanksville, Utah, a team of scientists and explorers are living in the desert, acting as if they’re already colonists on Mars. The most meteors in the U.S. have been found in Kansas, and most of them come from one massive event thousands of years ago. In Haviland, a collector makes it his life’s mission to dig them from the prairie soil, and he warns what will happen if another meteor of this magnitude strikes again. Any idiot can send a satellite into space these days, says Sandy Antunes, and he’s leading a new wave of DIY satellite launchers who are taking over a job long controlled by government space agencies and major corporations.
