In a video posted to YouTube on June 19, author Olive Persimmon spoke in front of a group of people about the damage that can be inflicted on an individual when they’re called the “ugly friend.” Persimmon spoke about her own experience with being called the ugly friend and how she never realised how much it had hurt her until she went to the cinema to see The DUFF and it made her cry.Persimmon also told the story of how shocked and grateful she was when an attractive guy flirted with her first, instead of her attractive roommate. She said she didn’t confront her feelings about that moment until another two years down the line when she drunkenly texted him her gratitude. “That’s how deeply buried and important that hurt seed had become,” said Persimmon. She also gave advice on how to kill the “hurt seed” and make yourself feel confident and beautiful. The video had 370 views at time of writing. Credit: YouTube/ Olive Persimmon
