ATHENS, GEORGIA — A naked college senior hopped up on PCP dove into the back of a garbage truck and fought with officers trying to get him out, according to a police report.
Benjamin Abele, a 22-year-old University of Georgia student, was arrested last Sunday morning after cops had to tase him twice during the altercation.
According to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department report, an officer spotted Abele running naked down a downtown Athens street around 2:30 a.m. The student then dove into the rear loader of a city garbage truck.
When the officer reached the truck, he spotted Abele “laying in the contents of the hopper which consisted of bags of garbage and about six inches deep of dirty foul liquid seeping from the bags.”
The officer noted he had a “dazed look on his face and his eyes were completely dilated,” which the cop “immediately recognized ... as a possible manifestation of PCP impairment.”
As Abele then tried to burrow deeper into the loader, police struggled to pull him out. Cops were able to get a handcuff on one of his wrists and started to pull him out of the hopper.
Cops had to tase Abele when he punched and kicked them, but it had little effect the first time.
It took four cops to pin Abele to the ground, but he was still fighting and so was tased a second time.
He was later taken to a hospital in Athens for treatment.
Abele was charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, a felony and public indecency, a misdemeanor. He was released after posting $16,000 bond.
