SOUTHAMPTON, UNITED KINGDOM — The largest cruise ship ever built arrived in the English port of Southampton on Tuesday ready to set sail on its maiden voyage.
At 362 meters in length, cruise line Royal Caribbean International’s Harmony of the Seas is a full 100 meters longer than the Titanic, according to the Daily Mail. Its length is the equivalent of four football pitches, the BBC reported.
The ship has a passenger capacity of 6,780. It has 20 restaurants, 23 swimming pools, a 10-storey waterslide, two surf simulators, two rock-climbing walls, a full-sized basketball court and an ice-skating rink.
“Harmony of the Seas is the world's largest cruise ship. Bigger can be beautiful when it allows you to put so many great facilities on board to allow people to have a great holiday at sea,” Stuart Leven, the managing director for the UK and Ireland of Royal Caribbean International told the Telegraph.
One of the key feature of the ship is its bionic bar. Passengers can place drink orders via an app and robotic arms mix and serve the drinks. The two arms can make two drinks per minute.
Passengers are given a wristband known as the WOWband, which acts as a room key and can be used to pay for dinner and shopping onboard.
Harmony of the Seas is the 25th ship in Royal Caribbean International’s fleet. It cost $1 billion and took two and a half years to build.
The ship will leave Southampton for Rotterdam on May 22 on a four-night cruise, the BBC reported. It will then sail to Barcelona, Marseille, Florence, Rome and Naples.
