BALI, INDONESIA — Amokrane Sabet, a former mixed martial artist, was gunned down by Indonesian police on Monday after fatally stabbing a cop.

The 49-year-old French national was set to be arrested after several complaints of misconduct over his erratic behavior.

When police arrived at his residence, Sabet came out of his house carrying a knife and resisted arrest.

While resisting, Sabet stabbed police officer Anak Agung Putu Sudi, 39, eight times in the neck, chest and thigh, killing him.

The police fired several warning shots, but Sabet ignored them. Bali Police Chief Inspector General Sugeng Priyanto said in a press conference that police were ultimately forced to shoot Sabet.

In a graphic video of the incident uploaded to YouTube, approximately 15 shots can be heard.

Sabet had been living in Bali for two years and had apparently made a lot of trouble for locals. Police had summoned him to come to the police station several times, but he never appeared. An investigation also revealed that he had overstayed his visa.
