MONTGOMERYVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA — A churchgoer is being questioned by police after allegedly shooting dead a fellow member of his congregation.

Victim Robert Braxton, 27, was shot in the chest at the Keystone Fellowship Church in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said, according to ABC News.

The incident happened during a service on Sunday after Braxton and another church member got into an altercation. The confrontation escalated, and the suspected shooter pulled out a weapon, believed to be a semi-automatic handgun, ABC News reported.

The man had a permit to carry a concealed weapon, Steele said, according to ABC News.

Witnesses described ducking for cover on hearing up to three shots ring out in the sanctuary of the church, NBC 10 reported.

Braxton was rushed to the hospital but later died of his injuries. The suspected shooter has not been charged and police are trying to determine whether the shooting was justified, Steele said, according to ABC News.
