Margie – Black Bottom Jazz Band 2007

In 1952 we started our very first band. Influenced by the early jazz masters we called ourselves the Black Bottom Jazz Band, named after the Black Bottom Stomp as recorded by Jelly Roll Morton in 1926.
We played during our highschool days. Bob Erwig trumpet, Arent Nieuwkamp clarinet, Eduard Rahusen trombone, Jack Vincken banjo, Rob Herwig piano, Wim de Vries bass and Lody Verwoerd drums.
In 2007 we tried to organize a reunion of that band. Lody Verwoerd had passed away and we decided not to replace him. Jack Vincken could not make it out of Canada and we replaced him with banjoist Ari van Mensvoort. Bob lived in Canada at the Westcoast, Arent in Montreal, Rob in the south of France. The others still lived in the Netherlands, but we all came together for this reunion in Bussum the Netherlands.
The clip that we play here was actually the first tune we tried after not having been together for some 55 years. I must say, it was quite a thrill.
