Police hunting for two brothers wanted for murder of missing Washington couple

ARLINGTON, WASHINGTON — Police are searching for two brothers in connection with the killings of a missing Washington State couple, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

The brothers, John Blaine Reed, 53, and Tony Clyde Reed, 49, are now charged with first degree murder in the deaths of Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude, according to NBC News.

Shunn and Patenaude were reported missing on April 12.

Sheriff Ty Trenary said Sunday that evidence discovered in the recently found vehicles of the couple as well as in the former house of John Reed led authorities to believe foul play was involved, according to the Seattle Times reported.

No bodies have been found, and Trenary said officials were focusing on rough ground near Oso where the victims' cars were discovered.

Using a rescue helicopter, authorities said they found the couple's missing vehicles — a 2000 Land Rover Discovery and a 1995 Jeep — close to each other in some woods in the Oso area Thursday, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton.

It appears both vehicles went over an embankment, Ireton wrote in a news release.

Authorities found blood, rubber gloves, a tarp and towels inside the vehicles.

Charging documents say blood was found in both cars, with the "largest concentration of blood … in the cargo, consistent with a body having laid there some amount of time."

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office also said Sunday there is surveillance footage "tying the Reed brothers to the disposal" of the vehicles.

The red 2007 Volkswagen EOS Coupe the brothers were driving was found in Phoenix on Monday. They are now believed to be driving a 2002 gold Acura 32T, according to a Snohomish County Sheriff's Office press release. Police say the brothers may be heading to the Mexican border.

The couple reportedly told friends Reed made threats to "shoot" them over a long-standing property dispute.

The Reed brothers are both convicted felons, and authorities believe they are armed and dangerous.
