Dota 2: Steam VR Spectator Mode Teaser

A new teaser video from Valve hints that Dota 2 enthusiasts will soon have an impressive and immersive new way to watch the competitive multiplayer game, thanks to SteamVR.

In a brief clip posted to the official SteamVR website, Valve teases "VR features coming to your favorite games" and shows footage of an enhanced spectating mode. The VR view for Dota 2 shows gameplay on a virtual theater screen and moves certain elements, like the game's minimap, to a separate segment of the display to reduce UI clutter.

It looks like viewers will also have the option to select and get stats on certain players and teams; the teaser shows the viewer selecting former Evil Geniuses player Arteezy with a Vive Controller, reviewing his skills and then pulling up a pair of virtual line charts comparing the two teams.

Valve hasn't officially said when the VR spectating feature is coming. This year's major Dota 2 tournament, The International, will run Aug. 8-13 in Seattle, Washington.
