RUMINATIONS: I keep thinking Ill put together a list of the top 10 worst Treehouse of Horror segments, but I never do. There ARE some really awful ones in there, but I think most of them average out to be okay more often than not. I think the shorter length really DOES help make sure the jokes keep flying quickly, but I think theyre at their best when they actually ARE parodying horror movies and not just pop culture stuff in general.\r

Storyline-wise, you can tell this was really meant to be more connected to the Thing comics from earlier in the month with 90s Kids final line to the shadow creature. The creature itself remains largely unexplained aside from Jaeris having put it in the apartment in an attempt to push Linkaras emotions enough to force him to unlock the full potential of his magic gun (a side-effect being that the gun can then be used by anyone). I had envisioned that Jaeris had a small menagerie on his house ship that he could employ at some point – lots of creatures or tools that he had collected on his MANY journeys for specific tasks.\r
\r
On that note, I wanted 90s Kid to be the one to take out the shadow creature if only because I wanted 90s Kid to be the hero for once, especially since he had been the villain in the previous year. As was pointed out earlier in the storyline, hes not half as stupid as he plays himself off, but thats for another time. Harveys character development also comes here in spades as he reflects on his behavior and is not happy about what it says about him, which will lead into the Christmas storyline, but thats a story for later.
