First Syrian family arrives in the U.S. under Surge Resettlement Program
The first Syrian family to resettle in the U.S. arrived in Missouri on Wednesday, marking the first family to migrate to the states under a speeded-up "surge operation."
Ahmad al-Abboud, his wife and five children, left Jordan this week after living in the country for three years because of the violence in his native Syria.
The 45-year-old struggled to find work in Jordan and was living off food coupons.
Al-Abboud wants to learn English and find a job to support his family.
However, his family isn't the only one seeking a better life.
Since October, 1,000 Syrian refugees have moved to the U.S. from Jordan.
