A vertical expanse of limestone in Bolivia called Cal Orcko is believed to contain more than 5,000 dinosaur footprints making it the biggest known collection in the world.
A wall in Bolivia has the remarkable distinction of being the biggest known collection of dinosaur footprints in the world.
Known as Cal Orcko, the 328-foot-tall expanse of limestone is estimated to have more than 5,000 prints from nearly 300 different dinosaurs across eight or more species.
Scientists believe that as far back as 68 million years ago, the wall had been part of an ancient lake’s shore that was used regularly by the dinosaurs.
Alternating periods of wet and dry happened to preserve the prints geologically, and tectonic activity eventually pushed the area up into its present-day vertical position.
Miners made the initial discovery in 1985, but it took the scientific comm
