00:00During my stay with the rebels, I sent back to the United States many stories.
00:05The most interesting of which concerns the young women that fought with the soldiers in the mountains.
00:10The Cuban rebel girls. They were wonderful.
00:14And more specifically, it concerns two Americans who found themselves mixed up in this vicious little war.
00:21Hey Jackie, what's all the excitement?
00:30I finally got a letter from my brother.
00:32How wonderful. How's your family?
00:34They're fine.
00:35Have they seen Johnny?
00:36Yes. About a month ago, he and a couple of rebels hid from the police in our sugar mill.
00:41They left the next morning to join Fidel.
00:44You know, my people admire him very much.
00:48I wonder why he gave up everything here to help us.
00:52He's always been like that.
00:54Ever since high school, he's been on the side of the little guy.
00:57I'd love to see the big jerk again.
01:00How much of a chance would you take if you could see him next week?
01:03Almost anything. Why?
01:05I have to go to Florida in the morning to make arrangements for a large shipment of arms.
01:09My work's finished here.
01:11How would you like to go back to Cuba with me?
01:13Me? A rebel?
01:15What could I do?
01:17There are many things you can do.
01:19The women of my country are doing a wonderful job.
01:22But maybe it's too much to ask of an American.
01:25Look, my boyfriend's down there, isn't he?
01:27If I can be of some help, I can be a lot of help.
01:30These guns are very important to our movement.
01:32I can't do it alone.
01:34Will you come?
01:36Sure. And boy, will I be glad to get out of this dump.
01:40In every revolution, certain trusted patriots
01:43are sent to other countries to procure arms, money and food.
01:48It's interesting the extent they must go to
01:51to get such things back to the home country.
01:54Scouts search every underworld area for guns and other weapons of war.
01:59There are no questions asked.
02:01It's simply a matter of cash in return for the merchandise.
02:04The cost of any war is exorbitant.
02:07In this case, some of the money was supplied by wealthy,
02:10idealistic Cubans and other Latin people.
02:14But the bulk of the financing had to come from the pesos,
02:18saved by the multitudes of people in Cuba
02:21hoping for a new chance in life.
02:28Of course, the American girl wanted to be near her boyfriend.
02:31That's understandable.
02:33But the Cuban, a girl from a very wealthy, aristocratic family,
02:37had everything to lose.
