Brazil Protesters Decry Legal Immunity for Former President

Thousands of protesters came out on to the streets of Rio de Janeiro and cities all over Brazil on Thursday following President Dilma Rousseff’s decision to appoint her predecessor Lula da Silva as chief of staff of her administration. Rousseff's move to make appoint the former president as Chief of Staff effectively grants Lula legal immunity, which particularly inflamed Brazilian emotions because Lula is currently under investigation for corruption.
