Women Behind Bars is a documentary, directed, produced and written by Aziz Sanghur. Mr Sanghur is a documentary film-maker. The documentary every year in Pakistan, there are between 8,000 to 9,000 reported crimes against women. These include, rape, acid throwing, honor killings, forced marriages, forced prostitution and the buying and selling of women. Unfortunately, these crimes are growing every day. In Pakistan, women are not regarded as human, they are instead treated as objects that are subservient to males. There are a large number of crimes against women. In particular the honor killings, where along with committing a crime against the woman, their lives are also taken away from them. The 'Right to Life' as per our constitution and religion, is totally ignored by people that seek to serve their own interests using honor as the excuse and the murder women. Women are given away to enemies in exchange for rival family feud killings. None of these women have any rights and women that are married off to the Koran, and remain like that for the rest of their lives. In Pakistan, every year, hundreds of women are victims of either acid thrown on their faces or are burnt. There innocent faces are completely disfigured. There happy lives are suddenly turned into one from hell. Sabra from Karachi is one of them. Her husband had burnt her. Life is based on trust and commitment. If you don't have these, then its all over. Like its all over for me after the incident. My relationship with my husband is over, but at least I am close to my children. They are with me. In Pakistan the ritual of woman exchange called Watta Satta is very common...meaning giving a female for marriage in exchange for getting a female for marriage. In Pakistan, every year over 600 men and women are murdered in the name of honor. Over 50% of the cases are not even reported, because tribal councils in villages are involved. Tahira and Manthar Ali used to live in a village called Qamri. They liked each other and did a court marriage in Karachi. When this news reached the village, a village counsel got together and passed a verdict to kill them both as this was a Karo Kari case.
