Hit and run doctor drives into cop trying to swerve a parking ticket

NEW YORK — A top New York surgeon hit a cop with her car as she tried to swerve a parking ticket on Thursday.
Breast cancer specialist Rachel Wellner was arrested following the incident in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, according to the New York Post.
Two patrol cops tried to issue Wellner a ticket when they found her Volvo SUV double-parked on 55th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Wellner reacted by cursing the officers and jumping on top of her car, according to NBC New York.
Leaving the passenger door open, Wellner got into her car and put her foot on the gas. In her apparent attempt to escape, she hit one of the officers in the shin.
The cops then gave chase. Wellner was stopped and arrested by another police unit on West 53rd Street between Ninth and Tenth avenues, the New York Post reported.
The injured cop was taken to Weill-Cornell Medical Center and is expected to recover from his injuries, according to the New York Post.
Wellner later said she was the victim, claiming the police used violence against her. "I double parked the car and got a ticket," she told the New York Post. "The police used force on me. I was beaten up."
Wellner faces several charges, including reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest, according to the New York Daily News.
